Created for our Neccessary Mutations Collection for our

African Contemporary Emporium, Mars leads the way in

presenting whismical, even challenging mutations of African

archetypes, playing with colour, species, and antiquity to

forge a New African Art

Okechukwu Echere is a phenomenon. When I first came

across his work in Ghana two years ago, I was blown away,

not only by its dramatic scale, but also by the power of the

pieces and its commentary on adornment. Okey since came

to South Africa to be part of the DNA workshops I coordinated

with Trevyn McGowan, and we are privileged to have some of

his pieces in our 44 Stanley Store and at the All African Spaza

Sumo in the House

We’re delighted, thanks to the first Design

Network Africa Program and PACE Fair to

be stocking the massive, extraordinary and

sought-after pieces created by our friend from

Lagos, the inimitable Okechukwu Echere. The

piece on the left is 1,3 Metres high.
